What is
Radio Frequency Ablation?
RFA aims to reduce or eliminate chronic pain in specific body areas by disrupting nerve signals that transmit pain sensations. During the procedure, a particular needle is targeted towards the target nerve under imaging guidance and radiofrequency energy is then applied to create heat and destroy the nerve.
2. Pain from facet joints or nerves: RFA is often used to treat pain originating from facet joints or nerves in the spine, such as cervical, thoracic or lumbar facet joint pain or spinal arthritis or nerve irritation.
3. Limited mobility: Chronic pain can decrease mobility and interfere with daily activities. If pain limits your ability to perform routine tasks or affects your quality of life, RFA may be considered as a treatment option.
What does Radio Frequency Ablation Treat?
Chronic pain
RFA effectively treats chronic pain conditions, including facet joint pain, sacroiliac joint pain, and pain from nerve irritation or damage.
Arthritis-related pain
RFA can relieve pain associated with arthritis, spinal arthritis or degenerative joint disease by targeting the nerves responsible for transmitting pain signals.
